Pupil dilation is a crucial part of a thorough eye exam, allowing us to examine the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels in greater detail. Using special eye drops, we temporarily enlarge the pupils so we can detect early signs of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, retinal detachment, and more. While your vision may be slightly blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours after dilation, the benefits of early disease detection far outweigh the temporary inconvenience.
